The Videographic Essay: Practice and Pedagogy

Elizabeth Alsop

Elizabeth Alsop is Assistant Professor of Communication and Media and Liberal Studies at the CUNY School of Professional Studies. Her essays have appeared or are forthcoming in The Velvet Light Trap, Adaptation, The Journal of Film and Video, and The Quarterly Review of Film and Video, and her book, Making Conversation in Modernist Fiction, will be published by Ohio State University Press in Fall 2019. She has also written about TV and pop culture for The Atlantic, Salon, The Los Angeles Review of Books, and The New York Times Magazine. At the 2018 workshop, she developed a video essay exploring forms of aesthetic “excess” in post-network television series including Twin Peaks: The Return, The Knick, The Leftovers, and Hannibal, which she presented at the 2019 Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference.
